By Rachel Rotten  The first 5 minutes of the game saw multiple lead changes and a tie at 19 points, but that was the closest the game would get until the final 5 minutes. Angel City patiently pulled away from Sacred one jam at a time, and Sacred answered with consistently strong blocking and persistent jammers. At the half, Angel City led 73-43. In an effort to not repeat history, Angel City started the second half much like the first: trying to hold back fierce Sacred jammers Jam’n Jewlz and The 4Closer who would surely erase Angel City's lead if given the chance. Jammer penalties were frequent in this game, with both teams' jammers serving an unnerving number of penalties, especially odd for the usually clean 4Closer (Sacred) and Ghetto Fabu-Lez (Angel City). By 10 minutes into the 2nd half, Angel City's strong blocking and nimble jamming had put up 45 unanswered  The revolving door of jammer penalties would keep the jams close at the mid-point of the second half, with 4Closer (Sacred), Fifi Nomenon (ACDG), Colt 45 (Sacred) and Ghetto Fabu-lez (ACDG) all spending time in the box and taking turns trying to capitalize on each other’s mistakes when released. The Sacred City comeback gathered steam as the game entered its final ten minutes; Colt 45 and 4Closer continued to put points on the board for Sacred while their teammates Slapjack, Miss Behaved and Axle Breaker skillfully tied up the Angel City jammers with relentless recycling and well-timed blows. Their collective efforts brought the score to 141-100 with only 5 minutes left to play, and Sacred kept coming: a power jam for Jam’n Jewlz in Sacred’s favor brought the score to 143-113 with 3:10 left to play, and the reliable 4Closer put up 9-0 to make it Angel City 143, Sacred City 122 with 33 seconds left on the clock.  After a team timeout for Sacred, both teams fielded full packs for the last jam, Angel City well aware that their current 21-point lead could be as easily erased by penalties as the rest of their lead had been. As if the sky had opened up and heard Sacred's roaring and infuriated fans, the Angel City jammer Chica Go Lightning was sent to the box, leaving the 4Closer more than a minute to close the gap. |

 In just over a year, Shunami Bomb has taken ACDG and roller derby by storm. Jumping right into the deep end, she has worked incredibly hard to quickly rise through the skating ranks to become a member of the undefeated Rocket Queens. Additionally, she has become co-head of our Marketing department, been an integral force in creation of our new A/V Club to create innovative video advertising and content for the league, as well as becoming a beacon of awesomeness by joining our fabulous Training department in shaping our future skaters. Shu's humor, enthusiasm and dedication is palpable and contagious; she's so funny she'll make you laugh until you cry! ACDG is a better place with her in it. She is our Skater of the Month for May, congratulations and well deserved!!! POP! POP! |

 by: Gnarl Sagan So we know she's a pretty stellar dancer, we know she REALLY likes cookies, but here's the rest of what you need to know about this amazing Hollywood Scarlet: Snick-Her Doodle joined ACDG in 2010 and quickly rose up to Rocket Queen level. She helped the Rocket Queens stay undefeated for 2011 and her hard work landed her a spot on the Scarlets last year. Her positive attitude determined she'd be perfect for coaching our subpoolers, and her skills have definitely rubbed off on them! We think it's pretty safe to to say that Snick-Her is one of ACDG's brightest stars. Congrats, Snickher! We love you! |

But back in 2008 we were graced with a new recruit who would eventually be baptized with a favorite mealtime as her skate name while on a team roadtrip. And since that time, Breakfast has been a dedicated, reliable and positively motivated member of our league. Her hardwork has paid off on and off the track: moving her way up the skater ranks the past few years to now becoming a solid and regularly rostered member of our Hollywood Scarlets, and becoming a beloved co-Coach of the Rocket Queens. teams were evenly matched and both came with the drive to win. It
was clear, after the first jam, both The Rocket Queens and SoCal were
going to play hard, smart, and strategic. The Queens built
impenetrable walls, holding back SoCal’s fierce jammers.
Newer ACDG members FiFi Nomenon and B-Train widened the score
gap with their skillful jamming, with the help of
smart plays led by their strong and aware pivot, Sela Cidal. It
was not an easy task holding walls and staying calm with SoCal
powerhouses and long-time derby veterans like Trish the Dish and
Ivanna S. Pankin, both playing an incredibly hard-hitting game.
Everyone played their hardest, but it was blocker Rachel Rotten
who walked away with the MVP award for the Rocket Queens and the
impressive Mistress Doom took it for SoCal. The nail-biting game ended with the Rocket Queens 28-point victory over SoCal Derby. The 2012-year is bringing big competition, but the Rocket Queens keep proving that they can take on anyone!! POP POP! |

Our venue, the Culver City Veterans Auditorium, is closed until April for renovations. That means that soon we'll have the revamped venue polished up nicely for our friends and fans, along with some new elements that we're planning for bout nights. In the meantime, we're kicking ass up and down the coast and training hard to bring you, our fans, a season of exciting roller derby! Sit tight and mark your calendars, it's gonna be a great season! |
 By: Red D. 2Riot Kicking off the 2012 season on the highest of notes, the Rocket Queens beat Orange County Roller Girls' Pulp Friction, 138 to 68. With new Rocket Queens including Fifi Nomenon, Bubble Vicious and Gisele Punch'n, ACDG brought down the hammer. Starting off the first half with a strong lead, the ladies in purple didn't let it get to their heads, keeping strong walls and showing fancy footwork. Most important of all, they stayed out of the box! OC's Pulp Friction matched the Queens in skill, enthusiasm and talent! It was a real pleasure to play and be hosted by the loveliest of teams! Since her derby beginnings, she immediately gained a reputation for quickly developing her skills while maintaining an awesome attitude. As one of the hardest working girls on this track, it's no surprise that Bubbles got accepted to join the Hollywood Scarlets in a short time after joining ACDG! Alas, due to real life scheduling, she will be skating as a Rocket Queen this season. Either way, she's in it to win it and ACDG is just proud to call her a sister. She pushes herself to the limit and is always there to lend a helping hand to her fellow skater or as our practice space manager. Already a lover of wheels, Toss traded her two for eight, and instantly fell in love with roller derby. Despite not being a “roller skater” initially, she immediately honed her skills and in no time was a Rocket Queen for the Angel City Derby Girls. With her intense drive and dedication to ACDG, she has already set the bar extremely high for herself and teammates. Nicknamed “Gumby” on the track due to her ability to glide through any tough situation with impeccable agility, and mastering the art of “mohawking”, Toss is quite a force to be reckoned with. |

 Only LA’s one-of-a-kind art showcase and charity auction, EAT YOUR ART OUT V, could turn art into a tent-pole event. This year’s theme will transport patrons to a 1920’s travelling carnival and art gallery inside of Titmouse Inc. animation studios on February 25th, 2012, starting at 7pm. Among food-trucks, free beer, carnival games, live DJ sets by DJ Day, DJ Mahf (and more), and all the curios and wonders one would expect from a carnival, the work of over 60 A-List artists will be on display for all to see and bid on in a silent auction. All pieces have a minimum bid price, but are priced to sell this one night at much less than standard gallery prices. Already renown in LA’s subversive art world, in 2011, curator Jane Dope found herself having to turn away donations from artists due to the limited space in last year’s venue at Meltdown Comics. This year, the event has blossomed into a vast spectacle that will adorn Titmouse Studios with work from artists such as Andy Howell, Angry Woebots, Dave Crosland aka King Gum, Dave MacDowell, Jason Goad, Jim Mahfood aka Food One, Joe (Chogrin) Game, Johnny VamPotna, Josh Taylor, Kevin Knight, Lou Pimentel and more on its roster, with many more joining this month. EAT YOUR ART OUT was started five years ago by a skater for the Angel City Derby Girls, Jane Dope, to raise funds for her struggling women’s Flat Track Roller Derby League. “Our survival is largely dependent upon sponsorships, donations and fundraising events,” Jane explains. “Eat Your Art Out is by far our most successful fundraising event, beyond my wildest dreams!” EAT YOUR ART OUT V’s goal is to raise enough money for Angel City Derby Girls to have a permanent home to hold roller derby bouts and events for the community. All proceeds go to support the league, which is independently run by the skaters for the skaters.  Shanks, our Skater of November, has a lot to celebrate lately: a triumphant and exciting season with our Western Region ranked All-Star team the Hollywood Scarlets, a fabulous year of stellar recruitment success and her 21st birthday to top it all off! Finally she can celebrate at the after party! Joining us at the start of the 2010 season, in two short years Shanks has proven she's a natural talent and phenomenal leader on and off the track. She quickly rose through the ranks and earned her wings on the Scarlets, while also stepping up as a key figure in our training program and reinvigorating our recruitment program to record numbers. She has Hulk-smashed her way to glory and we love her for it. And to top it off, this force to be reckoned with always wears a smile and has a kind word for everyone. A well-deserved thank you goes out to Shanks! |
by Killa Nois It has been the year of Angel City Derby Girls, with a little help from the Rocket Queens. The fearless B Team finished their season with a strong win against West Coast Derby Knockouts. After a fierce battle, the Queens came out on top with a score of 190-92. The fight to the finish was no easy feat, as The Rocket Queens were down in points throughout the first half. The West Coast gals were named “Knockouts” for a reason. With their big hits and ability to distract, the Queens were left frazzled. At halftime, spirits were beginning to break. Thanks to their captain, Rachel Rotten, the girls in purple took their positions ready to play THEIR game. Strong pivots like Reno Revolver and Pearl Neckslash were in control of the entire pack forcing the Knockouts to fall in line. Able jammers like Rosie Bottom and Killa Nois were able to pick up BIG points thanks to the purple pack’s smart strategy and quick thinking. After winning against West Coast, The Rocket Queens finished their 2011 season completely undefeated. Following in their A Team’s footsteps, The Rocket Queens are a force to be reckoned with. Bring it on 2012!  |
